Weapons in GTA are rarely about raw damage — what matters is matching the set to the type of mission. The logic below carries over from game to game.

The universal set

  1. Pistol

Always on you: quiet store entries, finishing shots, firing from a car. Confirmed in the trailers.

  2. Rifle or SMG

Your main firearm. The rifle is more accurate at range, the SMG is better in tight spaces and from a vehicle.

  3. Shotgun

For clearing rooms. Keep it to short range — at medium distance it is dead weight.

  4. Something thrown

A Molotov or grenade to push enemies out of cover when a firefight stalls.

Important

Attachment lists and stats are unconfirmed before release. The weapon database marks what was officially shown and what is inference from the series.

Loadouts by scenario

Store robbery

Pistol with a suppressor and a melee weapon. The job is to scare, take the register and leave before police arrive. A rifle only raises your wanted level.

Major heist

Rifle, shotgun, body armour and something thrown. Scout the exit first: half of all failures happen on the way out, not in the shootout.

Chase

SMG or pistol — whatever is comfortable through a window. Heavy weapons are useless in a car.

Quiet mission

Melee and a suppressor. One loud shot in a stealth mission usually means restarting it.

What to upgrade first

  • Magazine size — fewer reloads in long fights.
  • Recoil and sights — direct accuracy at medium range.
  • Suppressor — less about damage, more about not being spotted.

Next: wanted level guide, so the firefight does not cost you the whole mission.
