For the first time in the main series, the story is built around a pair: Lucia Caminos and Jason Duval. This is not three separate lives like GTA 5 — it is a partnership that spends most of its time together.
How a duo differs from GTA 5's trio
In GTA 5 switching existed to show three separate lives: each character had his own home, hobbies and social circle. Here Rockstar leans on a shared story — Lucia and Jason are running from the same past, and almost every trailer shot puts them side by side.
Rockstar frames the story as a modern Bonnie and Clyde. The operative word is partnership: shared goal, shared risk.
What that changes in play
- Switching inside a mission
Expect character swapping as a tactical tool — one covers, the other flanks. This already worked in the GTA 5 heists.
- Different roles in the pair
Lucia reads as the decisive, aggressive half; Jason as the operator with a military past. That will most likely show up in dialogue and in how missions can be approached.
- Solo stretches
Some scenes put the characters apart, which means missions and activities for one lead only.
Playing the pair well
- Do not leave your partner under fire. An AI partner pulls aggro, but is not immortal.
- Match the character to the job. If the leads get unique abilities the way GTA 5 did, picking the right one shortens missions considerably.
- Listen to the banter. In Rockstar games, lines between characters often contain the actual route hint.
What about the story
Spoiler-heavy material never lands in general guides. Anything that reveals plot turns is tagged and hidden behind a gate — look for the spoiler label in the catalogue.
